but that's the way we all go

i'm angie (or julian, or whatever rly)

i'm Rose with Teeth. i'm bi, in case the colour scheme didn't tip you off. i'm a CP victim (w/ swag), and i'm just a little crazy ;)

(they/them preferably)

(not sure why i'm doing this f*ggy shit)

it's me again it's angie again (julian again (angie (again)))

about this "angie" or "julian" character

let's see. i'm a CP victim, which has left me w/ severe trauma that's deeply shaped the person i am, so there's that. i'm also a Sephardic Jew, or more specifically an Irish marrano. i'll get to the rest of the "suffering" bits in a min hold on

i'm a guitarist and composer, and i'm currently the primary/only person in Rose with Teeth, which fuses neofolk, Sephardic music, post-rock, post-punk, avant-prog, contemporary classical, and basically anything else i like into an unlistenable hodgepodge. you should check it out!

i also like to dabble in arts and stuff. i like to draw in part bc it's a good outlet for my "feelings" bullshit. i also rly like to post online, particularly on Twitter, where i have a reputation for being neither woke nor unwoke and also rly rly nice 90% of the time. i hope

as i mentioned earlier i'm bisexual. this is also my gender
also i rly like linguistics. it's v cool to me to look at the way languages develop over time, what explains certain grammatical structures, etc. i hope to someday study it professionally

okok now for the suffering. i have schizotypal personality disorder, for one, along w/ a litany of other mental issues, most prominently C-PTSD and OCD. i also have chronic pain, Ehlers-Danlos, high odds of having MS, and literal brain damage. happy?

shit i like

  • my fav bands are Cardiacs and Current 93. i like them for both very similar and very opposite reasons: David Tibet's poetry is often beautiful, and attempting to decipher his imagery is v rewarding. he also tends to pick incredible musicians like Michael Cashmore as his partners, and the arrangements are often simply lovely when they're not existentially terrifying. meanwhile, attempting to decipher Cardiacs lyrics is its own treat, but the real pleasure is in the incredibly complex composition and virtuosic musicianship. they pushed me to learn music theory and composition and improve my playing, and i'm v grateful to them for that. rip Tim Smith

  • i also rly like the artists and bands Talking Heads, Jeff Rosenstock, Coil, Liturgy, David Bowie, Swans, the Mountain Goats, kiss the anus of a black cat, Lauren Bousfield, Black Dresses, Nina Simone, Death in June, ROME, Anohni (and her old band Antony and the Johnsons), Xiu Xiu, Lauryn Hill, Psychic TV, Kenan Bell, and Have a Nice Life, as well as the composers Claudio Monteverdi, Charlie Looker, John Zorn, Béla Bartók, Alexander Scriabin, Erik Satie, Ludwig van Beethoven, Carlo Gesualdo, Takashi Yoshimatsu, Yuki Kajiura, and Aram Khachaturian

  • i'm reserving a special entry for the greatest guitarists of all time: Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Django Reinhardt, and Narciso Yepes

  • i'm also fond of movies; my boyfriend got me into them, and i sometimes review them here. some of my favourites include Trust by Hal Hartley, Nostalghia by Andrei Tarkovsky, That Obscure Object of Desire by Luis Buñuel, Dogville by Lars von Trier, Sorry to Bother You by Boots Riley, A Serious Man by the Coen Brothers, π by Darren Aronofsky, Do the Right Thing by Spike Lee, and (possibly especially) The Night of the Hunter by Charles Laughton

  • i like anime, manga, visual novels, and light novels quite a bit! the ones that have stuck w/ me the most are The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Kaiba, Steins;Gate, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Haibane Renmei, and Serial Experiments Lain. aside from those i rly like Nichijou, Azumanga Daioh, Yotsuba&!, Lucky Star, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, Kotoura-san (a rly good and healing examination of a character w/ C-PTSD), and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

  • i don't read often enough but things i have read at least in part and liked include God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut, VALIS by Philip K. Dick, Blood and Guts in High School by Kathy Acker, Capital by Karl Marx (nd plenty other of his writings), Jennifer Government by Max Barry, Foundation by Isaac Asimov, Diaspora and Distress by Greg Egan, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, Philosophical Investigations by Ludwig Wittgenstein, The Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea, Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein, It Can't Happen Here! by Sinclair Lewis, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom by Cory Doctorow, The Mass Psychology of Fascism by Wilhelm Reich, Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, The Devil Finds Work by James Baldwin, and "On the Concept of History" and "Critique of Violence" by Walter Benjamin. a few books i intend to read in the near future are Blindsight by Peter Watts, In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust, Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. (also reminding myself here to continue reading Bleeding Edge, UNSONG, and Don Quixote lol)

  • and ofc i love shit my friends make. my boyfriend and some of our friends have a Family Guy analysis podcast, Those Good Old-Fashioned Values, but i do not support it as it is a form of self-harm. my friend Sophie is making a game, Dungeon Gals, which is loads of fun. one of my friends, Apologies Ltd. makes t-shirts and other apparel, including the shirt i'm wearing in that pic (designed in collab w/ DRONEDIARY, who isn't online atm). a couple of my friends have literary magazines, including SURFACES and HARSH. my friends Rocky and "Serb" do incredibly funny [streams(https://www.twitch.tv/kemonofriendzone). several of my friends are rly good musicians and artists, including limeboiler, Loni, Nomie, Nondi_, and a few others i can't remember off the top of my head due to holes in brain aaahhh
